Professor
In 1986, Prof. Olson began his nursing career in Iowa. He later moved to North Carolina and obtained his PhD from UNC-Chapel Hill. He was an assistant professor at Duke until 2012 when moved to Texas where he later became the first nurse at UT Southwestern to be promoted to full Professor. His research focuses on developing an understanding of how nursing care contributes to patient outcomes following acquired brain injury. In this endeavor, he has published over 350 manuscripts, 2 books, 16 book chapters, and 250 scientific abstracts. He is the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Neuroscience Nursing and the co-chair of the Curing Coma Campaign. He has spoken widely on neuroscience nursing with lectures in 39 states, 11 countries and 5 continents.
